“We Can’t Overlook Them” – McCarthy Warns Chiefs Ahead of Tricky Siwelele Clash
Kaizer Chiefs may have navigated the intensity of the Soweto Derby, but attention has quickly shifted to what could be an equally demanding assignment in the Betway Premiership.
Amakhosi face Siwelele FC on Wednesday evening at the Free State Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 19:30 – and defender Aden McCarthy has already issued a clear warning about the challenge ahead.
Chiefs head into the fixture following a 1–1 draw against Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium on Sunday. While the result disrupted Pirates’ title momentum, it also extended Amakhosi’s winless run to two matches in the league.
Despite the recent dip, Chiefs remain firmly in contention for a CAF Confederation Cup spot. They currently sit five points clear of fourth-placed AmaZulu FC, while also holding a game in hand – a position that keeps their continental ambitions well within reach.
Looking ahead to Wednesday’s clash, McCarthy stressed the importance of not underestimating their opponents, particularly at this stage of the season.
“Siwelele is a good team, they managed to play a draw against Pirates. We shouldn’t overlook the individuals they have,” McCarthy said.
“It’ll be a tough game. Going towards the end of the season, we need to do the most as a team and make sure we get three points in every game.”

Siwelele FC enter the match in search of momentum. They currently sit 11th on the Betway Premiership table with 29 points and are without a win in their last four league outings – a run that includes three draws and one defeat.
Their most recent match ended in a goalless stalemate against Lamontville Golden Arrows, highlighting both their defensive resilience and ongoing struggles in front of goal.
Notably, the first meeting between Chiefs and Siwelele earlier this season also ended 0–0, underlining the potential for another tightly contested encounter.
With the season entering a decisive phase, every point carries added significance. Chiefs will be aiming to return to winning ways and strengthen their hold on a top-four finish, while Siwelele will view the clash as an opportunity to upset one of the league’s giants and revive their campaign.
As McCarthy’s warning suggests, this is far from a routine fixture – and with pressure mounting on both sides, Wednesday night’s clash in Bloemfontein could prove more complicated than it appears on paper.
