CANAL+ Extends PSL Broadcast Deal as SuperSport Secures Continued Rights Across Sub-Saharan Africa
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed the extension of its broadcast agreement with CANAL+ Group and the National Soccer League (NSL), ensuring that South African football will continue to be broadcast live on SuperSport via DStv across Sub-Saharan Africa.
The announcement on Wednesday follows CANAL+’s recent acquisition of the MultiChoice Group and its listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), where the company highlighted key sports properties as part of its continued investment in African entertainment and sport.
The renewed deal secures broadcast rights for the Betway Premiership, MTN8, Carling Knockout, Nedbank Cup, and the Motsepe Foundation Championship – maintaining the PSL’s position as one of the most-watched football leagues on the continent.
According to the PSL, the extension strengthens a long-standing partnership focused on growing South African football’s visibility, improving production quality, and expanding audience reach across Africa through SuperSport’s broadcast platforms.
PSL Chairman Dr Irvin Khoza, speaking via the PSL, welcomed the continuation of the relationship, stressing the importance of stability and collaboration in the development of the game.
“Football institutions are built through consistency, responsible stewardship and strong relationships. Together, the PSL and SuperSport have worked to grow the game, strengthen our clubs and bring South African football to audiences across the continent,” Khoza said, as quoted by the PSL.

CANAL+ Africa CEO David Mignot said the renewed agreement reflects the company’s commitment to investing in premium African sports content following its acquisition of MultiChoice.
“The extension of our partnership with the PSL is an important moment… It underscores our commitment to invest in compelling local sports and entertainment content across Africa,” Mignot said, as quoted by the PSL.
He added that the competitiveness of recent Betway Premiership seasons, including a title race decided on the final day, highlights the league’s growing quality and appeal.
CANAL+ also reaffirmed its long-term goal of enhancing the viewing experience for fans through continued innovation in production and storytelling.
The extension ensures that PSL football remains widely accessible across the continent, with SuperSport continuing as the primary broadcaster of South Africa’s top-flight and domestic cup competitions.
