From Formation to Promotion in Three Years: Kruger United Seal Betway Premiership Spot in Style
Kruger United have completed a remarkable rise through South African football after securing promotion to the Betway Premiership, sealing the 2025/26 Motsepe Foundation Championship title with a decisive victory on Saturday.
The Mpumalanga-based club defeated Black Leopards 3–1 at KaNyamazane Stadium to clinch the title with two matches still remaining, putting them mathematically beyond the reach of their closest challengers.
Kruger United entered the clash in red-hot form, having won their previous five league matches. That momentum carried into Saturday’s encounter, where they produced a composed and clinical performance to confirm both the championship and automatic promotion to South Africa’s top flight.
The victory not only underlined their consistency throughout the campaign but also marked a historic milestone for a club that has rapidly climbed the football pyramid.
Kruger United’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. Founded in 2023, the club earned promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship (National First Division) in 2024. Just two years later, they now find themselves among the elite in the Betway Premiership.
Their rapid ascent highlights a well-structured project and positions them as one of the most exciting emerging clubs in South African football.

While Kruger United celebrate automatic promotion, the battle for the remaining promotion opportunities remains wide open.
Milford FC, Hungry Lions, Casric Stars, and Cape Town City FC are still in contention for second and third place, which would secure spots in the PSL Promotion Play-Offs.
Kruger United’s promotion also strengthens Mpumalanga’s footprint in the Betway Premiership. They will join TS Galaxy as the province’s representatives in the top flight next season.
With momentum, ambition, and a rapidly growing reputation, Kruger United’s arrival in the Premiership adds a fresh storyline to the league – and raises an intriguing question ahead of next season: can their fairytale rise continue against South Africa’s football giants?
