Pirates Sound Warning Ahead of Kruger United Test as Jacobs Admits “Tricky Fixture”

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Raayan Jacobs has warned that Tuesday night’s Betway Premiership clash against newly promoted Kruger United could prove a tricky assignment, despite the Buccaneers’ strong start to the season.

The league leaders travel to Mbombela Stadium for a 7:30pm kick-off looking to maintain their unbeaten run and strengthen their position at the top of the table.

Pirates head into the encounter with confidence after an impressive 3–0 victory over Sekhukhune United in the MTN8 semi-final second leg on Saturday. The result completed a 4–0 aggregate triumph and secured their place in the final.

However, Jacobs knows the short turnaround presents its own challenge, particularly against a Kruger United side that has had more time to prepare.

“For us, we have to build on the performance on Saturday. It’s a good result, good performance, but it’s going to be a tricky fixture on Tuesday,” Jacobs said to Pirates media.

“Our main objective is to recover. We understand Kruger probably had a week to prepare. But our objective is to get ready and make sure we can collect all three points on the road.”

Pirates currently sit top of the Betway Premiership standings on 10 points, level with Mamelodi Sundowns. Their defensive record has been particularly impressive, with the Buccaneers conceding just once in their opening four league matches — and that goal came from the penalty spot.

Kruger United, meanwhile, are still searching for their first victory in the top flight. The newly promoted side have collected just one point from their opening four matches.

But their home record from last season provides some encouragement. Kruger went unbeaten at home throughout their Championship campaign, and Tuesday’s meeting with Pirates gives them an opportunity to produce one of the biggest results in their early Premiership history.

For Pirates, the challenge is to maintain their momentum despite a demanding schedule. For Kruger, it is a chance to announce themselves against the league leaders.

Kick-off at Mbombela Stadium is at 7:30pm.
