R579 Car Crash Leaves 18 Injured, Mayor Wishes Victims Speedy Recovery

Eighteen (18) people travelling in two vehicles were injured after a truck collided with a light motor vehicle before overturning on the R579 road between Leeufontein Corner and Corner Stone, outside Groblersdal, on Thursday morning.

The truck was transporting 17 farm workers.

The Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality’s communications department, on behalf of Mayor David Tladi, said it is alleged that the white truck was travelling at a high rate of speed when it collided with a white Toyota Yaris.

In a statement shared on the municipality’s Facebook page, the truck then veered off the road and rolled down an embankment.

“Seventeen passengers from the truck and one occupant from the light motor vehicle were treated for injuries at the scene before being transported to Groblersdal Hospital by paramedics from multiple private ambulance services,” read the statement.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured, their families, and everyone affected. We commend the emergency and law enforcement services for their swift and professional response at the scene,” said Tladi.

The circumstances surrounding the accident are under investigation by the relevant authorities.
