Netball South Africa Appoints Flash Sponsorship to Drive Commercial Growth as SPAR Proteas Continue Global Rise

Netball South Africa (NSA) has announced a major step in strengthening its commercial operations with the appointment of Flash Sponsorship as its non-exclusive commercial agency, tasked with expanding and growing the federation’s sponsorship portfolio.

The move comes at a time of significant momentum for South African netball, with the SPAR Proteas continuing to establish themselves among the elite nations in world netball, while domestic competitions and international exposure continue to grow in stature and popularity.

Flash Sponsorship, one of South Africa’s leading sports sponsorship agencies, has built an impressive track record across multiple sporting codes. Over the past 12 months, the agency has secured six new sponsors for Cricket South Africa, added ten new sponsors and budget-relieving suppliers for the Comrades Marathon, and renewed a key sponsorship agreement for Team South Africa on the road to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

The agency says Netball South Africa represents a strong commercial opportunity due to its structured development pathway and expanding footprint from school and university level through to club and national competition.

“Netball South Africa represents exactly the kind of opportunity we love — a sport with a formalised pathway from Development to School to University to Club to National Team and International competitions – and this represents excellent commercial potential for like-minded brands,” said Flash Sponsorship Sales Director Gill Fraser.

“We are thrilled to be appointed and look forward to delivering meaningful sponsorships that benefit the federation and the sport. It’s all to play for!”

The timing of the appointment reflects the rapid growth of netball in South Africa and across the continent.

The 2023 Netball World Cup, hosted in Cape Town, delivered record-breaking reach, attracting a live linear television audience of 14.9 million viewers — more than double the previous edition. South African and wider Pan-African audiences accounted for 78% of total global viewership, underlining the sport’s strong regional following.

Domestically, the Telkom Netball League expanded to 16 teams in 2024, a move driven by increasing competitiveness and growing participation levels. Netball South Africa leadership has also highlighted the sport’s rising popularity as a key factor behind its continued development.

On the international stage, the SPAR Proteas continue to climb the World Netball Rankings, further strengthening South Africa’s position among the sport’s global contenders.

Netball South Africa CEO Adam Brooke welcomed the partnership, expressing confidence in Flash Sponsorship’s ability to unlock new commercial opportunities for the federation.

“We are delighted to welcome Flash Sponsorship on board,” said Brooke.

“Their deep expertise in the South African sports market and their recent track record of closing significant commercial deals make them the ideal partner to help Netball South Africa reach its full commercial potential. This is an exciting new chapter for our federation.”

With netball’s profile continuing to rise following the success of the 2023 World Cup and the steady progress of the SPAR Proteas, the partnership signals a strategic push by Netball South Africa to strengthen its commercial foundations and accelerate the sport’s long-term growth.
