Kaizer Chiefs Confirm Fernando da Cruz as New Head Coach in Major Technical Team Shake-Up
Kaizer Chiefs have officially unveiled Fernando da Cruz as their new head coach, ending weeks of speculation surrounding the club’s technical team following changes at the end of the 2025/26 season.
The Soweto giants confirmed on Wednesday that the French-born tactician has signed a two-year contract with an option to extend for a further year. His appointment will become effective on 1 July 2026 as Amakhosi begin preparations for the new campaign.
Chiefs described Da Cruz as a highly qualified coach who holds a UEFA Pro Licence, the highest coaching certification in world football.
While Da Cruz may be a new head coach, he is certainly not a new face at Naturena.
The appointment comes after the club parted ways with co-coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef at the conclusion of last season, prompting management to begin the search for a new leader to guide the team forward.

The Frenchman previously worked with Kaizer Chiefs during pre-season preparations and was briefly involved with the club’s technical setup before accepting a role with the Moroccan Football Federation. There, he served as Technical Director until the end of June 2026.
His familiarity with the club, players and environment is expected to ease the transition as he prepares to take charge of one of South Africa’s biggest football institutions.
Chiefs supporters will be hoping Da Cruz can help restore the club’s fortunes and lead the team back into contention for major honours in the Betway Premiership, domestic cup competitions and continental football.
