Orlando Pirates Confirm Relebohile Mofokeng Transfer Agreement with Union Saint-Gilloise

Orlando Pirates have officially confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Royale Union Saint-Gilloise over the transfer of star attacker Relebohile Mofokeng.

The announcement ends weeks of speculation surrounding the highly-rated 21-year-old, who has been heavily linked with a move to the reigning Belgian Pro League champions following his impressive performances for both club and country.

However, the transfer has not yet been finalised. Orlando Pirates confirmed that the move remains subject to Mofokeng successfully completing a medical examination and agreeing personal terms with the Belgian outfit.

Deal Agreed Before FIFA World Cup

In a statement released on Wednesday, Orlando Pirates revealed that an agreement in principle with Union Saint-Gilloise had actually been reached before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Buccaneers explained that both clubs deliberately chose not to make the deal public in order to allow Mofokeng to focus entirely on representing South Africa national soccer team during the tournament.

According to the club, both parties agreed that South Africa’s historic World Cup campaign deserved to remain the main focus rather than ongoing transfer speculation.

Orlando Pirates added that no further comment would be made until the remaining formalities between the player and Union Saint-Gilloise have been completed.

Move Follows Outstanding Season

The confirmation comes after months of growing interest in one of South Africa’s brightest young talents.

Mofokeng enjoyed a sensational 2025/26 campaign, making 36 appearances in all competitions while scoring 11 goals and providing nine assists. His performances played a key role as Orlando Pirates completed a historic domestic treble by winning the Betway Premiership, MTN8 and Carling Knockout.

His impressive club form earned him a place in Hugo Broos’ World Cup squad, where he continued to enhance his reputation on the global stage.

Although he started South Africa’s opening two group-stage matches on the bench, Mofokeng made an immediate impact after being introduced against Czechia before delivering another standout performance in Bafana Bafana’s memorable 1-0 victory over South Korea.

Those displays further increased interest from European clubs, with Union Saint-Gilloise emerging as the frontrunners for his signature.

Belgian Reports Proved Accurate

Before Orlando Pirates confirmed the agreement, Belgian media had reported that negotiations between the two clubs were at an advanced stage.

The reports claimed Union Saint-Gilloise had offered Mofokeng a four-year contract and that he was expected to travel directly from the United States to Belgium once the transfer was finalised.

Wednesday’s announcement by Orlando Pirates confirms that the clubs have indeed reached an agreement, with only the final contractual and medical requirements still outstanding.
