Ncikazi Sends Clear Warning Ahead of Pirates and Richards Bay Clash
Orlando Pirates head into tonight’s Betway Premiership clash riding a wave of attacking brilliance — but assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi has made it clear that momentum alone won’t be enough as they chase top spot.
The Buccaneers travel to face Richards Bay FC at the uMhlathuze Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30pm in a match that could have major implications in the title race.
Pirates have been in devastating form in recent outings, scoring an astonishing 11 goals in their last two matches. A dominant 5–0 victory over Lamontville Golden Arrows followed an even more emphatic 6–0 demolition of TS Galaxy.
Key attacking players Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis have been central to this surge, both grabbing braces in the last outing as Pirates’ forward line continues to click at the right time.
Despite their impressive run, Pirates remain second on the Betway Premiership table with 54 points from 23 matches – just two behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, the opportunity to climb to the summit is within reach.
With Sundowns occupied by CAF Champions League duties against Espérance de Tunis this week, a win for Pirates would see them leapfrog their rivals and take control of the title race.
Speaking to Pirates media team ahead of the match, Ncikazi downplayed any concerns about playing at an unfamiliar venue, stressing that the team’s focus remains firmly on securing maximum points.
“Unfamiliar territory, I don’t think we’ve ever played a match there – but that is not important,” Ncikazi said.
“Whatever field, as long as there is a piece of land, we are prepared to go there and give it our best shot. Preparation, recovery, analysis – and then go to uMhlathuze and get three points. At Orlando Pirates, that’s the responsibility and mandate, nothing less.”

Richards Bay will not make it easy for the visitors. The KwaZulu-Natal side returned to winning ways on Tuesday with a 2–1 victory over Stellenbosch FC, ending a run of three consecutive defeats.
Currently sitting 11th on the table with 26 points from 23 matches, the Natal Rich Boyz will be aiming to build momentum and climb away from the lower half of the standings.
With Pirates’ attack firing, Sundowns temporarily distracted by continental commitments, and three crucial points up for grabs, the stakes could hardly be higher.
The big question now is whether Pirates can maintain their ruthless scoring form under the lights in Richards Bay – or if the hosts can halt one of the league’s most dangerous attacking runs.
Either way, tonight’s clash promises to be a defining moment in the Betway Premiership title race.
