Pirates’ Goal Explosion Continues: Ouaddou Hails Turning Point After 11 Goals in Two Matches

Have Orlando Pirates finally solved their biggest problem at the perfect time?

After weeks of scrutiny over missed chances, the Buccaneers have suddenly found their scoring touch – and in devastating fashion. Their 5–0 demolition of Lamontville Golden Arrows on Tuesday night at the Orlando Amstel Arena marked their second emphatic victory in a matter of days.

The result followed an equally ruthless 6–0 triumph over TS Galaxy, taking Pirates’ goal tally to an astonishing 11 goals in just two Betway Premiership matches.

Head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou had previously voiced concerns about his side’s inefficiency in front of goal. But speaking after the Golden Arrows clash, the Pirates mentor suggested his team may have turned a corner at a crucial stage of the season.

“Many people thought it was a bit of luck against TS Galaxy,” Ouaddou said. “But you can see when our boys start to find the net and become efficient in the final third.

“We have been creating a lot of chances since the beginning of the season. Now, towards the end, we are starting to score. It was a very good evening, and I am very proud of the boys.”

The latest victory was driven by standout performances from Relebohile Mofokeng and Oswin Appollis, who both netted braces on the night. An own goal added further gloss to a dominant display that overwhelmed Golden Arrows from start to finish.

Pirates’ attacking fluency, movement, and clinical finishing stood in stark contrast to earlier phases of the campaign, when they struggled to convert chances despite creating opportunities.

Despite their recent scoring surge, Pirates remain second in the Betway Premiership standings with 54 points from 23 matches. They trail leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by just two points, keeping the title race finely balanced as the season enters its decisive stretch.

With momentum firmly on their side, Pirates appear to be peaking at exactly the right time.

Attention now shifts to Friday night’s away fixture against Richards Bay FC at the Richards Bay Stadium, where kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm.

The big question heading into that clash is whether Pirates can maintain their newfound clinical edge – or if their opponents can find a way to halt one of the most in-form attacks in the league.

Either way, one thing is clear: Orlando Pirates’ goal-scoring machine is up and running – and the Betway Premiership title race is very much alive.
