Sundowns Hit by Morocco Travel Chaos Ahead of CAF Champions League Final Clash
Mamelodi Sundowns have suffered a major disruption ahead of their crucial CAF Champions League final trip to Morocco after being unable to depart from OR Tambo International Airport on Tuesday due to complications involving a landing permit.
The Brazilians were scheduled to travel to Rabat aboard a charter flight as preparations intensified for Sunday’s CAF Champions League final second leg against AS FAR.
However, the unexpected administrative setback forced the club to revise its travel plans at the last minute, effectively costing Sundowns a full day of preparation ahead of one of the biggest matches of their season.
Sundowns travel to Morocco carrying a slender 1–0 advantage after securing victory in the first leg at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday.
With the tie finely balanced, every hour of preparation could prove significant as Sundowns aim to finish the job away from home and lift African club football’s biggest prize.
According to a report by SABC Sport, the squad arrived at OR Tambo expecting to depart as scheduled before being informed that issues surrounding the landing permit for their chartered aircraft required changes to their travel arrangements.
With the CAF Champions League title on the line, all eyes will now be on whether Sundowns can maintain their focus amid the off-field complications and complete the job on Sunday.
