Bafana Hold Jamaica, Cape Town City Revive Promotion Bid, Bulls March Into URC Final

South African sport delivered another dramatic weekend filled with crucial results across football and rugby. Bafana Bafana wrapped up their World Cup preparations with a draw against Jamaica, Cape Town City reignited their PSL promotion hopes, while the Vodacom Bulls booked their place in the United Rugby Championship final after a stunning comeback victory.

  1. Bafana Bafana End World Cup Preparations With Jamaica Draw

Bafana Bafana concluded their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 1-1 draw against Jamaica in a behind-closed-doors international friendly.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) confirmed on Sunday that Burnley striker Lyle Foster opened the scoring for Hugo Broos’ side during the first half. However, Jamaica responded through Dwayne Atkinson, who netted the equaliser to ensure the match ended level.

The fixture was played without spectators as South Africa completed their final tune-up before the tournament begins.

Attention now turns to Bafana’s opening World Cup fixture against Mexico on Thursday, 11 June, where Broos and his squad will begin their quest on the global stage.

  1. Cape Town City Throw PSL Play-Off Race Wide Open

Cape Town City’s fight to gain promotion to the Betway Premiership received a major boost after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Milford FC in the PSL Promotion/Relegation Play-offs at Richards Bay Stadium on Saturday.

The decisive moment arrived in the 82nd minute when Therlo Moosa found the back of the net to hand City a vital three points away from home.

Despite the defeat, Milford remain top of the mini-league standings on six points. However, City’s victory has significantly tightened the race and ensured the battle for promotion and survival remains wide open heading into the final two rounds of fixtures.

After a difficult start to the play-offs, the result has breathed new life into Cape Town City’s hopes of securing promotion to the top-flight.

  1. Bulls Reach URC Final as Stormers Fall Short

The Vodacom Bulls will fly South Africa’s flag in the United Rugby Championship Grand Final after securing a dramatic semi-final victory, while the DHL Stormers saw their campaign come to an end on Saturday.

The Bulls produced a remarkable comeback to edge the Glasgow Warriors 22-21 in a thrilling encounter, earning a place in the championship match.

The Stormers, meanwhile, were unable to overcome defending champions Leinster, suffering a 20-11 defeat in Dublin.

The results mean the Bulls will now face Leinster in the URC Grand Final on 19 June at Croke Park in Dublin, with the Pretoria-based side aiming to bring the prestigious trophy back to South Africa.
