Kaizer Chiefs return to the MTN8 on Sunday evening with captain Brandon Petersen making it clear that simply progressing beyond the quarter-finals will not be enough for the Soweto giants.
Amakhosi welcome Golden Arrows to FNB Stadium for an 18:00 kick-off, marking their return to the competition after a two-year absence. The match also represents a first MTN8 campaign under new head coach Fernando Da Cruz.

“We are really excited to be back in this competition. For a team of Chiefs’ calibre, we should be fighting for this trophy every season,” Petersen said.
“In the MTN8, you only get one chance. For us, from the first whistle we go all out. We want to win that game, but take it game by game.”
The Chiefs captain also made it clear that the ultimate objective is to reach the final.
“But you know what the bigger aim is, and that’s to be in the final,” he added. “We started our preparations for this game. We know it’s going to be a difficult one, but come Sunday, we’ll be prepared and we’ll be ready.”

The pressure surrounding the fixture is amplified by Chiefs’ remarkable history in the competition.
The Soweto giants are the most successful club in MTN8 history, having won the trophy 15 times. However, their most recent triumph came back in 2014, meaning they have endured a lengthy wait to add another MTN8 title to their collection.
Their return to the tournament therefore provides Da Cruz with an immediate opportunity to deliver silverware momentum at the beginning of his tenure.
