The countdown is over for the inaugural 2026 Mpumalanga Premier’s Cup, with four of the province’s leading football clubs set to battle for silverware in a one-day tournament at KaNyamazane Stadium on Sunday.

The competition was officially launched last week Friday by Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu, who described the Mpumalanga Premier’s Cup as a flagship provincial initiative aimed at promoting football and netball, supporting youth development, strengthening community participation and stimulating local economic activity.
With free entry for supporters, the event is also expected to attract large crowds and provide a welcome boost for businesses in and around KaNyamazane.
The Bees Eye Major Upset
The day’s action begins at 09:00 when National First Division newcomers The Bees take on Betway Premiership outfit TS Galaxy in the opening semifinal.
After finishing 10th in their debut campaign in the second tier, The Bees will be eager to build momentum ahead of the new season under newly appointed head coach Duncan Lechesa. Lechesa, who replaced Joel Masutha last month, will be assisted by Sundra Govender and Velile Zitha as the club looks to take another step forward.
A positive performance against top-flight opposition would provide an early indication that the team is moving in the right direction.
New Era Begins for TS Galaxy
TS Galaxy arrive in KaNyamazane looking to build on an eventful campaign.
The Rockets reached the 2026 Nedbank Cup final before falling 2–1 to Durban City FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium. Their league campaign, however, proved less successful as they finished 12th in the Betway Premiership.
The club now enters a new chapter under former Bafana Bafana striker Bernard Parker, who was appointed permanent head coach in June after guiding Galaxy through their final five league matches as interim coach without suffering defeat.

The Bushbuckridge-based club secured automatic promotion after topping the Motsepe Foundation Championship with 62 points from 30 matches. An unbeaten home record throughout the campaign played a crucial role in their impressive title-winning season.
Head coach Abram Mongoya will be hoping his players continue the consistency that earned promotion as they prepare to compete against the country’s elite.
Casric Stars Look to Continue Their Giant-Killing Reputation
Standing in Kruger United’s path are one of South African football’s biggest surprise packages.
Casric Stars captured national attention with a remarkable run to the semifinals of the 2026 Nedbank Cup, eliminating Betway Premiership heavyweights Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu before eventually bowing out to eventual champions Durban City.
Although promotion to the Betway Premiership ultimately eluded Bucs Mthombeni’s side, Casric Stars still finished an impressive fourth in the Motsepe Foundation Championship and will be eager to show that their cup exploits were no fluke.
