Man (30) Taken into Custody for Assaulting a 95-Year-Old Woman in Hlogotlou

A 30-year-old man is set to appear at the Nebo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly raping a 95-year-old woman in the village of Vleeisboom, located in the Hlogotlou policing area of the Sekhukhune District.

The elderly victim is said to have been preparing her dinner when she was attacked by the suspect in her home on January 9, around 22:00.

Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, spokesperson for the Limpopo police, stated that the suspect, familiar to the victim, wielded a knife during the assault.

The individual is set to appear at the Nebo Magistrate’s Court on January 12, confronting a rape charge.

“The suspect reportedly attacked the elderly woman, restrained her, and then raped her before escaping the scene.” A rape case was promptly filed at Hlogotlou Police Station, and inquiries began. “Police conducted thorough investigative efforts, leading to the suspect’s arrest on the evening of January 10, 2026,” stated Mashaba.

Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Jan Scheepers emphasized that the apprehension of this suspect showcases their steadfast dedication to ensuring that those who commit gender-based violence face justice, especially targeting those who exploit the most vulnerable members of the community.

“The violence shown towards a 95-year-old woman is completely unacceptable and will not be allowed in our province.” “I praise the investigation team for their prompt efforts in capturing the suspect,” stated Scheepers.

He stated that they will ensure this case receives the focus it merits as it progresses through the criminal justice system.
