“We’re Losing Focus” – Moeneeb Josephs Raises Concerns After Pirates Drop Crucial Points in Title Race

Orlando Pirates legend Moeneeb Josephs has voiced serious concerns about the club’s mentality and unity following their recent slip in the Betway Premiership title race.

The Buccaneers were held to a 1–1 draw by Siwelele FC on Saturday at the Orlando Amstel Arena – a result that denied them the chance to strengthen their grip at the top of the table.

Coming at a decisive stage of the season, the draw could prove costly for Pirates, who are locked in a tight battle for the Betway Premiership crown.

Their inability to secure maximum points opened the door for Mamelodi Sundowns to take advantage. The defending champions capitalised with a 3–1 victory over Marumo Gallants on Tuesday, moving two points clear at the top of the standings after 21 matches.

Pirates now find themselves in second place, with pressure mounting as the title race enters its final stretch.

Beyond the result itself, there are growing concerns about the atmosphere surrounding the club.

In recent matches, sections of the Pirates fanbase have expressed frustration, with reports of supporters booing the team during games. Matters appeared to escalate further after the Buccaneers’ 2–0 victory over Richards Bay FC, when players reportedly left the pitch without acknowledging the fans – a moment that did not go unnoticed.

These incidents have raised questions about the relationship between the squad and its supporters at a critical point in the campaign.

Speaking on the SoccerBeat Podcast, Josephs suggested that both performances on the pitch and reactions off it are contributing to a loss of focus within the club.

“I think we just need to get our heads back to it a little bit more and start taking stock,” he said.

“Because somehow we’re starting to lose focus on what is important and what is needed as a team – whether it’s supporters or players. When we lose, all these little issues come out, but this is an important part of the season.”

The former goalkeeper admitted the situation is frustrating, particularly given the timing, as Pirates aim to maintain their challenge for the league title.

With just a handful of matches remaining, every point is becoming increasingly valuable in the Betway Premiership race.

Pirates still have everything to play for, but the latest setback – combined with off-field tensions – suggests that maintaining focus could be just as important as performances on the pitch.

As the pressure intensifies, the big question remains: can Orlando Pirates regroup in time to reclaim top spot, or are these warning signs of a title challenge beginning to slip away?
