Solomon Mahlangu Half Marathon Hailed a Success as Winners Emerge in Kwaggafontein
The seventh Solomon Mahlangu Half Marathon has been hailed a success after athletes took to the streets of Kwaggafontein on Saturday, with organisers saying the event went according to plan.
The annual race, hosted by Mkobola Athletic Club at Kwaggafontein Stadium, featured the flagship 21km event alongside 10km, 5km and a free 4.9km fun run/walk.
Mkobola Athletic Club secretary Precious Mkhwanazi said the organisers were pleased with how the event unfolded.
“The Solomon Mahlangu Half Marathon was a huge success. We are happy that the race went very well; everything happened according to plan,” Mkhwanazi told SizaNazo365.
The 21km Open category produced competitive finishes in both the men’s and women’s races.
Vuyiso Tshebe of Moloto Athletics Club claimed the men’s title after completing the course in 1:10:10.
He was closely followed by Thembinkosi Mavuso of Conquerer Athletic Club, who finished in 1:10:50, while Siyabonga Xowana of Masai Athletic Club took third place in 1:12:30.

In the women’s race, Senzeni Maluka of Venda Athletic Club won the 21km Open category in 1:32:39.
Ziphindile Dlamini of Correctional Services finished second in 1:39:42, with Gift Ramabele of Nedbank Running Club completing the podium in 1:42:33.
The successful staging of the seventh edition marks another milestone for an event that continues to bring competitive road running and community participation to the KwaNdebele region.
The inclusion of the free 4.9km fun run/walk also provided an opportunity for less experienced runners and community members to take part alongside athletes competing in the longer-distance races.
With this year’s event now concluded, organisers can look back on a successful seventh edition while attention turns towards building on the momentum for the next Solomon Mahlangu Half Marathon.
