11-Goal Thriller, Pirates Pressure and Chiefs’ CAF Return – Betway Premiership Weekend Delivers Chaos

The Betway Premiership title race took another dramatic twist this weekend as Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates both delivered statement victories, while Kaizer Chiefs secured a major milestone in their campaign.

From an extraordinary 11-goal thriller in Pretoria to crucial wins in the race for continental football and survival, the latest round of fixtures produced one of the most unforgettable weekends of the season.

Sundowns Survive Record-Breaking Goal Fest

The standout spectacle arrived at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, where Sundowns edged Siwelele FC 7–4 in the highest-scoring Betway Premiership match of the season.

Masandawana looked unstoppable in attack from the opening whistle. Teboho Mokoena opened the scoring before Tashreeq Matthews and Colombian forward Brayan Leon each grabbed braces in a relentless attacking display.

Sundowns also benefited from two own goals, with Nyiko Mobbie and Gape Moralo inadvertently adding to the home side’s tally.

Yet despite conceding seven times, Siwelele FC refused to collapse. Gamphani Lungu produced a remarkable hat-trick, while Relebogile Mokhuoane also found the net in a match that kept supporters on edge until the final whistle.

The victory moved Sundowns to 68 points after 29 matches, strengthening their position at the summit of the table.

Pirates Keep Pressure On

Later in the evening, Pirates responded emphatically to maintain pressure in the title race.

The Buccaneers cruised to a convincing 3–0 victory over Magesi FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Patrick Maswanganyi gave Pirates an early advantage before Kamogelo Sebelebele doubled the lead moments later with a powerful finish. Oswin Appollis completed the scoring from the penalty spot in the second half.

The result leaves Pirates just three points behind Sundowns, but with two matches still remaining compared to Sundowns’ single game left this season – keeping the title race very much alive heading into the final stretch.

For Magesi, however, the defeat deepened relegation concerns. The Limpopo side remain bottom of the standings, two points behind Marumo Gallants, who drew 1–1 against Richards Bay FC.

Chiefs Secure Continental Football

Sunday brought more significant movement near the top of the table as Chiefs defeated Sekhukhune United 2–0 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

The victory confirmed Amakhosi’s third-place finish and secured qualification for the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup.

Chiefs now sit on 51 points, seven clear of fourth-placed AmaZulu FC, ensuring they cannot be displaced from the final continental qualification spot.

Other Results Around the League

Elsewhere in the Betway Premiership, Golden Arrows and Polokwane City played out a goalless draw.

Orbit College and AmaZulu also shared the points after another 0–0 stalemate, while TS Galaxy drew 1–1 with Chippa United.

Meanwhile, Durban City FC and Stellenbosch FC could not be separated in a 0–0 draw.

With the title race tightening, relegation pressure intensifying and continental qualification places now confirmed, the Betway Premiership is heading toward a dramatic conclusion – and after this weekend’s chaos, predicting the ending has become even harder.
